LUXURY GULETS

A gulet is defined as a traditional Turkish wooden sailing boat. It is now commonly used for sailing holidays. It is classed in the schooner category, a schooner is a sailing ship with two or more masts. Usually, the foremast is smaller than the main mast. The hull of a traditional wooden gulet is usually made from pine, African mahogany and Iroko (West African teak).

Gulets were originally built to transport good and cargo up and down the Turkish coast. They are designed to be stable and keep the cargo dry and safe. This stable design and their wide body make them ideal for passenger sailing holidays. Generally, all gulets have the same facilities and offer hotel-like accommodation. A large deck with plenty of room for entertaining, sunbathing, a shaded seating area and a table for al fresco dining. In the lounge or saloon there will be a comfortable seating area with TV, DVD player and music system, a bar and internal dining area in case the weather is bad. The cabins are becoming larger and more comfortable with the evolution of the gulets. Each cabin will have a bed and a private bathroom. 

The majority of time gulets are propelled by engine power, however, the sails can be raised when the weather and sea conditions are suitable. 

The additional features are what differentiate the gulets between the three categories of standard, luxury and deluxe.

Standard

Standard category gulets or standard plus (renovated or better quality boats) are classic boats with or without air conditioning. These gulets are often used as cabin charter boats. Generally, all have double cabins with private shower and toilet, some may have air conditioning. There are some very good quality gulets from the standard category that can offer very good service and value for money. 

Luxury

Luxury gulets are air-conditioned boats, generally are more comfortable, bigger and offer more spacious cabins or saloons or they just have extra facilities compared to standard gulets. The difference between standard and superior is sometimes very tiny.

Deluxe

Deluxe gulets are the most requested and booked category. They offer a high level of comfort on board and service of a hotel with 4-5 *. The internal and external areas including the cabins and bathrooms are very spacious. Additional features may include plasma TV in the cabins as well as in the lounge, jacuzzi on deck.

The professional crew will be on hand to ensure you have a memorable gulet charter in Turkey. The number of crew will differ depending on the size of the gulet. The crew will usually comprise of a captain, sailor and a chef. The chef will prepare all meals from fresh local ingredients.
